START YACHTING

For those who have never been on board a yacht before this 2 day non-residential course is the perfect way to 'try it out'.

COMPETENT CREW

This is meant for those with little or no experience to help them learn to become a useful crew member. You will eat and sleep on board and log at least 100 miles including 4 hours night-time sailing.

DAY SKIPPER (Tidal)

Previous experience of sailing is required with a minimum of 5 days sailing including 4 night hours and at least 100 miles logged. Basic sailing ability and navigation skills are required and ideally you will already have completed the Day Skipper theory course.

On successful completion of the course you will be able to skipper a small yacht in familiar waters by day. The RYA Day Skipper is one of a number of RYA qualifications which can be professionally endorsed. Learn more here.

YACHTMASTER COASTAL

For  those with a minimum of  15 days (2 as skipper), 300 miles and 8 night hours who have navigational skills to Yachtmaster shore based standard and practical sailing ability to Day Skipper standard.

This course will enable a person to skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day and night upon completion of the course.  This is a practical completion course, not an exam, and if you wish to take the Yachtmaster Coastal  Exam you will need to make additional arrangements for the examiner yourself with the RYA.

We will be happy to make the yacht available for the exam for a nominal fee after the five day preparatory course and ask the other people on board to stay for the extra day to crew for you - most are usually very happy to do this.

 YACHTMASTER PREPARATION/EXAMINATION

For  those with  the full Yachtmaster prerequisites we offer 4.5 days intensive preparation by an RYA Examiner.  You will be committed to taking the Yachtmaster Examination but during this time you will receive both instruction and honest feedback  on your skills prior to committing yourself either  Coastal or Offshore level.  The examination takes place on the last day when an independent RYA examiner steps on board to conduct the examination.

All participants, including any non-examination candidates should be prepared to crew for the examination candidates.

For more information on RYA Sailing Courses click here.

On all courses we try to mix abilities - on any course there will probably be Competent Crew Students, Day Skipper Students.  Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster candidates will have the support of competent crew members (preferably  Day Skipper students).
